Pain Management & Anesthesia

Understanding topical numbing and pain management during tattoos

Supervised Anesthesia Not Yet Available

Topical numbing options are limited by safety and skin response. We're evaluating a supervised "no-pain" pathway with licensed medical professionals. In the meantime, let's plan shorter sessions with strategic breaks.

Current Options: Topical Numbing

We currently offer topical numbing creams for certain areas and situations. Here's what you should know:

  • Limited effectiveness: Topical numbing only affects surface layers and typically provides 30-60% pain reduction
  • Application timing: Must be applied 30-45 minutes before starting
  • Skin considerations: May affect skin texture temporarily, requiring artist adjustment
  • Not for everyone: Some people experience skin reactions or find minimal benefit

Alternative Pain Management Strategies

Break Up the Session

Instead of one long session, split larger pieces into multiple shorter sessions. This makes the experience more manageable and gives your body time to recover.

Strategic Breaks

Regular 5-10 minute breaks during longer sessions help reset your pain tolerance and keep you comfortable throughout the process.

Preparation Matters

Stay hydrated, eat well beforehand, avoid alcohol and blood thinners, and get good sleep. A healthy body handles pain better.

Distraction Techniques

Music, podcasts, breathing exercises, or bringing a friend to talk with can help take your mind off the sensation.

Why Supervised Anesthesia Is Complex

We take safety seriously. Supervised pain management or anesthesia for tattoos requires:

  • • Licensed medical professionals (MD, NP, or PA) on-site
  • • Proper medical equipment and monitoring
  • • Patient screening for contraindications and allergies
  • • Liability insurance and regulatory compliance
  • • Emergency protocols and trained staff

We're exploring partnerships to offer this safely. Until then, we're committed to making sessions as comfortable as possible through breaks, communication, and technique.
