Tattoo Aftercare Guide

Keep it clean, lightly moisturized, and out of sun/saltwater. Expect mild peeling days 3–7.

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you experience swelling, spreading redness, fever, or unusual discharge, contact a medical professional immediately and notify the studio. These may be signs of infection requiring prompt treatment.

First 24 Hours

  • • Keep the initial bandage on for 2-4 hours (or as instructed by your artist)
  • • Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the bandage
  • • Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap
  • • Pat dry with a clean paper towel (avoid regular towels that may harbor bacteria)
  • • Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment
  • • Do NOT re-bandage unless specifically instructed

Days 2-7: Healing Phase

  • • Wash 2-3 times daily with fragrance-free soap
  • • Apply thin layers of unscented moisturizer (avoid petroleum-based products)
  • • Expect mild peeling and scabbing - do NOT pick or scratch
  • • Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattoo
  • • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds
  • • No swimming, soaking, or hot tubs

Weeks 2-4: Final Healing

  • • Continue moisturizing as needed
  • • Tattoo may appear dull or cloudy - this is normal
  • • Gradually return to normal activities
  • • Always use SPF 30+ sunscreen on healed tattoos
  • • Avoid gym equipment directly on fresh tattoos

🌺 Waikīkī & Hawaiʻi Specific Care

  • Saltwater: Avoid ocean swimming for at least 2 weeks (saltwater can irritate fresh tattoos)
  • Sun exposure: Hawaiʻi sun is intense - keep fresh tattoos covered or use high SPF
  • Beach sand: Keep sand away from healing tattoos to prevent infection
  • Humidity: Extra moisture in the air means you may need less lotion
  • Activities: Hold off on surfing, snorkeling, and hiking in streams until fully healed
